Description:

We have laboratory bench-top spray dryer (Model: LU-22, M/s. Labultima, Mumbai, India) having 1 lit/h water evaporation capacity (maximum) was used for experimental purpose. A peristaltic pump pumped with two-fluid nozzle atomizer (inside diameter: 0.7 mm), which used compressed air from a compressor for spraying. It consist of drying chamber, cyclone and a scrubber containing bag to remove ultra-fine particles were made of thick transparent glass. Inlet drying air, after passing through an electric heater, flowed co-currently with the spray through the main chamber. Dried powder samples were collected in the receivers from the bottom of the cyclones. The remaining ultra-fine particles were recovered in the scrubber. The process flow diagram of spray drying system is as shown in figure.

Applications: milk, fruit juices, pharmaceutical products etc.
