Abstract of Masters Thesis:
MECHANICALLY AGITATED FLUIDIZED BED DRYER
Drying is one of the most important unit operations in all industries right from chemical, textile, pharmaceutical to foods and bio-technology. Selecting proper dryer for a particular application requires expertise. The choice of the dryer depends on preliminary experimentation, which involves predicting drying rates and achieving required product qualities. Once the dryer is selected then the mathematical analysis could be used to optimize different parameters like drying condition and dimensions of the dryer. The proposed work involves experimental and mathematical analysis of Mechanically Agitated Fluidized Bed Dryer (MAFBD).
MAFBD is a modified fluid bed dryer for drying of coarser particles which are not easily fluidized. In recent year’s researcher have looked at MAFBD as an option for drying. Moisture containing feed is passing into fluidization column, where the material dries because of evaporation of moisture due to hot air and hot water/oil jacket used as heat source. It is proposed to study the mixing behavior of different materials, effect of different speed of agitator, feed flow rate, bed height, on heat and mass transfer within fluidization column and other parameters.
